JMHO,your a good person and your making me think about the way I view things. I am usually the type of person who is willing to argue my points but you are making good points that are making me see things in a somewhat different perspective.
It's just hard for me. When a group comes together and 9 out of 10 in that group wants to hurt a person or another group, it's hard not to generalize even when the one persone didn't vote to hurt the group or person and they don't fit into the generalization.
I believe very much in kindness. I also beieve in taking care of those who need help. There is a set of humanity that does not feel the same as I do. What about racial hatred? Would we not call that bigotry? What about those who claim to not want to helpothers for the sake of benefiting themselves? Would we not call that selfish?
There are groups in society that belong to slurs and that is their choice for belonging to the group. For instance, would we not say the KKK are a bunch of racists? Would we not say the Zionism don't in some way amount to white supremacy?
Tough one for me.
That you are open to self awareness is a positive trait and one I believe we all struggle with at one point or another. It is an ongoing goal for me.
Racism, if not borne from, is certainly sustained from generalizations, is it not? Calling out an entire race of people when the only true thing the group's individuals may have in common with one another is culture, geographical location, or pigmentation in the skin?
In my opinion, Racial hatred is indeed bigotry. I believe we are all, every person on earth, prejudiced in some measure; what separates us is how hard we strive to overcome and/or fight against that prejudice.
Being prejudice does not equate to being a racist. Calling the KKK racists, especially by today's standards, is not merely a generalization, it's probably a truer representation based upon the fundamental principles of their own membership.
You and I won't solve the world's problems on this forum. But as long as we're able to apply objectivity to each discourse, to try and view each issue from the other's perspective, then we should, at a minimum, be able to debate respectfully.
