We've all seen the reports that a US navy destroyer collided with a container ship 5 times its size 60 miles off the coast of Japan. How is it possible not to see or detect a vessel of that size?I wonder if we will ever get the results of the investigation.

Did you see the damage to our destroyer vs the damage to the container ship? The Japanese ship needs some of the bow sand blasted and repainted. Our destroyer got its starboard side staved in. Our ship looked like a car that failed to beat the train across the RR tracks.

How can this happen? It's not like he didn't have his blinker on or ran a light. Shouldn't RADAR or SONAR have picked up something miles before the collision?
