John Doe has asked that folks stop making this look like a retirement home day room. No more "Memory Lane" threads this year, please. No pictures of 15th Street back when it was a trail leading into Indian territory. No reminiscences about date nights down by the coke plant in Holt, staring at the river and giggling to jokes about "what's that smell?" And no more threads about the way it used to be back when Principal So-and-So at the old high school used to walk the halls holding a Bible and a .44.
Thank you for living in the moment.

I know it's John Doe's forum, and he can make the rules ... ... that having been said ... ... I don't know how old he is, but I didn't want to hear old fart stories when I was younger, say age 35, either. After all, at that age, it seemed like it had been only a few years before that I was told at graduation that I had my whole life ahead of me. Who cares how they did things back in the 1930s and 40s! My Grandpa was a WWI veteran. His older cousins were in the Spanish-American War. Geez! That's ancient history. A bunch of old farts sitting around the porch talking about something that happened 50 years ago. Who cares? Now, I'm only a few years away from Social Security and sitting on the porch because my kids took the car keys away after my eyes went bad. Sometimes, when you no longer have your whole life ahead of you, and most of it is in the past, memories can help keep you sane as you realize you are sliding downhill toward the grave. back in my day… But, like I said, it's John Doe's thread. I guess we have to do what he says.

Back in my day, old farts knew when to shut up and didn't have to be told not to talk about the old days.
