Not being originally from Alabama, I am still somewhat confused about the Probate Judge position.
From what I understand, this position is the main administrator/executive of the county. In other places it would be called the "County President", "County Administrator", "County Manager", or something similar. Is that correct?
Does this person actually do much, if any, judicial proceedings (lack of a better phrase)? How much bench sitting does this person do?
If this person does both, how the heck do they have time to do both? I would think either one would be a full-time job.
Thanks!

Around here in NC, to best of my knowledge, a probate judge oversees all the legalities occurring after the death of an individual.

Again, does anyone know what Tuscaloosa county's probate judge does?
My second question is, who handles such things as facilities, oversees road construction, county personnel, etc. Who is the executive branch of the county? If it is the county commissioners, who does it on a daily basis?

From the Tuscaloosa county web site: The duties and responsibilities of the Probate Judge are many and varied. Some duties are administrative in nature, others are judicial and some are legislative in character. The Probate Judge is recognized in a special category, because the Probate Judge has legal functions as well as many political and administrative roles. The Code of Alabama 1975 and its supplements contain the general statutory provision affecting the Probate Office. The State Legislature has passed many local acts and general acts affecting the Office of the Judge of Probate.
The responsibilities of the Office of Probate include:
Probating Wills Administering In testate Estates Guardianships Conservatorships Adoptions Legitimations Condemnations Establishing Cemeteries Mental Commitments Name Changes Marriage License Corrections Annexations Election Official for County

I had a strong feeling that the probate judge did much more than just decide cases. According to the website (https://www.robrobertson.com/) of one of the candidates (Rob Robertson):
"In our county, the Probate Judge also Chairs the County Commission. The Chair of the Commission is responsible for the daily operations of our county government and needs to be a good generalist, capable of getting things done. I will draw on a range of life, military, public safety, business, and governmental experience to move our county forward.
I know the county operations and have worked across all our local jurisdictions to help create a safer and better place to live, work, and raise families."
I have to wonder if he is doing all of the above, how does he have time to decide cases?
