I think this is an important question.

Most everyone here in this forum is all about not only talking about their own business, but then commenting on everyone else' s as well.
Which brings us to your tag line.
So tie all that together and restate your question please..

Many folks who just want to live away from most folks and live off the land and mind their own business are looked upon as kooks by many folks. Is that what you are talking about?
Some folks want to homeschool their kids, but many folks including the government agencies want to get into their business as well.
So between busybodies and gov't agencies ... It's hard for folks to just mind their own business these days.

I guess I don't understand the question. I don't know that I would want to live in a world where everyone just kept to themselves. Is that what you mean?

Only if you are inside your house behind locked doors and closed windows and drapes.
Otherwise, many court cases have held that if you are in any way in public view you have no expectation of privacy. You may think you should have an expectation of privacy. But the government and courts say you don't.
If you can be seen by somebody looking through binoculars from a half mile away, how could you think it could be private?
If you can be seen from an aircraft flying overhead, how could you think it could be private?
If you can be seen by your neighbor peeking through your privacy fence at you skinny dipping in the pool, how could you think it could be private?
Stay inside your house, lock your doors, close your curtains, and maybe just maybe whatever you do might be considered private, so long as nobody can hear you, either.

I wouldnt advise peeking through your neighbors privacy fence when they are skinny dipping. I did it once when I was a child. Still have nightmares.

Or maybe he's a pervert. Normal people do not do those things.

Or maybe he's a pervert. Normal people do not do those things. There was a court case years ago [citation unavailable] where a woman was arrested for being in her own back yard, behind a privacy fence, skinny dipping in her own backyard pool, and the next door kids were peeking through a quarter-inch slit between two warped boards. Their mother wanted to know what had grabbed their interest so, and had a look herself. When she saw a nude woman, she called the cops for the neighbor "exposing genitalia" to her kids. The woman was acquitted by the testimony of a medical doctor on the technicality that, physically, a woman's genitals are fully contained inside her body, not the fact that she had a right to privacy and nobody had a right to look. A male with exposed genitals, on his own property, behind a (supposed) privacy fence would have been convicted, should anybody want to look, call the cops, and prosecutor want to take on the case.

Nice story. Not fiction -- actual. Sometimes you just have to rely on memory because you don't have a warehouse full of magazines going back 30 years you can spend the next two years leafing through to prove to you I'm not making this up.

Especially if the hear people laughing and playing in the pool. If your parents had let you out of the basement I'm sure you would have looked through fences too.

If your parents had let you out of the basement I'm sure you would have looked through fences too. Someone had to copy catalog that enormous collection of magazines. Who better than a precocious child?
