Does anyone know of a place where we can get coffee and desert? Years ago we used to go to Denny's or Big Boy. We could sit there and drink a couple of cups of coffee maybe have a piece of cheescake or strawberry pie.
We went out for drive last night and wanted to stop for a snack but couldn't think of any where to go. Suggestions?

Wouldn't most restaurants offer this option... Appleby's, Ruby Tuesdays, DePalma's, etc? Are you looking for an atmosphere more reminiscent of a diner, Buckeye?

There is supposed to be a Denny's on Daniel Payne Rd. off I-65 N of Birmingham, and one on Tyson Rd off I-65 S of Birmingham.

We really don't want to do the Ruby Tuesday kinda place. Too bar-zie. Just would like someplace to have a cuppa coffee two sit in a booth and talk kinda place.

Panera Bread, Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, Waffle House, iHop .... Last time we tried Panera, in the evening, they didn't have much of anything left. I never look at Krispy Kreme or Starbucks as a evening go to place to conversate for lack of a better word. Guess I just miss the old time Denny's kinda place or small diner.

Waffle House and IHOP retain the late nite diner feel, IMO.

I should have thought of IHOP. Will have to check their desert menu. Waffel House, to me, is more of a breakfasty 24 hour place. As far as Krispy Kreme and StarBucks go. They are very expensive. Last time we went to Krispy Kreme, 2 cups of coffee 2 hot chocolates and 4 donuts, the tab as over $20 bucks. That's crazy. I heard that Wright's, when they reopen, are going to be open later. That might be a good alternative and closer to home.

Wings U is kind of noisy, but they have several desserts on their menu that I have never room for after a meal, that I always say I'm going to come back for to only eat dessert and have coffee sometime.

There is a fairly new franchise here and (don't think its 20 years old) they appear to be expanding southward called Wawa's. Great coffee but a little expensive.

There is supposed to be a Denny's on Daniel Payne Rd. off I-65 N of Birmingham, and one on Tyson Rd off I-65 S of Birmingham. I suppose that might be OK if you're in B'ham. The last time I went from from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to get something to eat was one time in the early 80s when my wife wife and I got all dressed up on a Saturday night to go spend a few of our meager dollars on a night out. We went to three different places and all the lines were out the door. Finally, my wife reminded me: "IT'S A
HOME FOOTBALL GAME!"OK, let them have it; we're going to Birmingham -- just to be able to have sit down meal -- because thousands of outside Alabama football fans have run us out of our own hometown. After that, we we made it a point to leave town every Alabama home football game. Wasn't worth staying around to put up with the trouble all those people caused us. Fridays' on the Amtrak to New Orleans were a favorite to get away from those Alabama football people.
