here is the thing people forget about entitlement spending (the trumps, Ryan's, Paul's, Koch's, Etc.) especially with social security, Medicare and Medicaid spending. the one poignant little fact everyone forgets is the Healthcare industry (Home Care, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Assisted Care Facilities, Hospice and Home Hospice and all the support services for those primary industries) and the overall economy as a whole is supported to the tune of 65% and maybe more by now by Medicare, Medicaid, and social Security Spending. Now what do you think will happen to al those employed individuals in those industries when we all of a sudden remove 65% of the spending in those areas? what will happen when they are now unemployed homeless with no job prospects thus removing all the spending on necessities and luxuries by these now unemployed individuals, and removing the spending by the healthcare employers who are now out of business? where do you think the economy will be in that scenario? no one seems to think about the effects of what they plan to do and come up with better alternatives. their only answer is to pull the rug out from under everyone without regard for the pain and suffering it will cause. same thing they did to Puerto Rico back in the late 90's early 2000's when they pulled the federal tax exempt rug out from under the island without any warning or alternative thus sending their economy into a tail spin putting them in the financial situation they are in today. I'm sure there are and will be effects to doing this that even me and some of the brightest economists can predict. just look at what happen to the US's largest retailer's profits when SNAP aka: Food Stamps was cut, their profits for the quarter following the food stamp cuts almost matched the cuts dollar for dollar there was a little discrepancy between the cuts and profit losses but that can be explained by not every food stamp dollar being spent at the retail giant. even Walmart's own exec's in a letter to the SEC and stock holders admit that the profits losses and future profits earnings are directly tied to spending on entitlements, yet these same people who's very industries which they admit in writing relies on entitlement spending are lobbying the right wing conservatives and sell out democrats in congress to cut, privatize, and even abolish many of these programs and social supports. my conclusion is this makes no sense. I will likely be getting a job soon but it is in the healthcare field so even though I may not be on entitlements anymore if they cut, privatize or abolish entitlement spending I will still be without an income or employment. something to think about when you advocate for entitlement cuts, privatization or abolishment.
