Trump unraveling
As I've said before, I don't want Trump removed from office. Trump is a disaster so far, and will probably be a disaster as long as he is in office. But I think it would be a worse disaster if he is removed. We need power to be transferred by legitimate election only.
It was shocking how Trump fired Comey in such a disrespectful way. Trump first claimed the firing was instigated by the DOJ, and his top spokesmen defended that for 2 days, but then it came out that he lied about that, it was at Trump's instigation because Comey wouldn't stop the Russia/Trump investigation. And Trump admitted it, but it was beyond him why anybody cared that he lied about it.
Then it came to light that in his first week in office, he had called Comey in and asked for a pledge of personal loyalty to him. Comey told him he would pledge honesty, but he wouldn't pledge personal loyalty. Trump asked for it twice. How little Trump understands what is acceptable in government.
Trump's spokesmen are no doubt getting tired of being made a fool and a liar before the public. They have to go out and defend what Trump says, when they know it isn't true, and often as they speak, Trump is already telling a different story.
Yesterday the story was he disclosed classified information to the top Russian spy and the Russian ambassador, information so sensitive it was tightly restricted even within U.S. intelligence, and not shared at all with other allies. It was information from Israeli intelligence, from which it's possible the Russians can deduce Israeli sources and methods. It was not planned to disclose this information with the Russians, it was just blurted out by Trump, apparently to show off how much he knows. It has probably damaged that channel of intelligence from Israel for the foreseeable future.
But that was yesterday. Today, we learn that back in February, Trump asked Comey to shut down the investigation of Flynn. How can anybody think about compromising Israeli intelligence when we have such blatant obstruction of justice going on right here in our own White House.
It's a different outrage every day. Never enough time for the seriousness of any one transgression to sink in with the public before it is abandoned by the media for the next outrage. I have to wonder whether it's possible for this house of cards to survive for 4 years.
The betting odds that Trump will be impeached have risen to 60%. That's mainly a European phenomena. But here, there are now more people who would like him impeached that there are who don't want him impeached. And there are more people who think he won't last 4 years than there are who think he will last 4 years.
