Hell has frozen over................after 16 years of using a Blackberry, I now have this contraption known as the iPhone. Does anybody have some pointers for handling these things? It doesn't seem to be very intuitive. Should I voice activate Siri or don't bother? Advice needed and would be appreciated.
So far, I have managed to sync my 2 email accounts with contacts and calendar, set notifications, sounds, etc.

Sorry for the delayed response; it's my first time on the forum in several days.
Welcome to the iPhone arena. While I'm sure you've probably gotten advice already, I'll tell you Siri's voice activation is exceptionally useful. I no longer have to look up a contact, I simply ask her to text, phone or even email the contact when needed. She will also read your texts and emails to you, look up addresses/phone numbers for businesses you're looking for, google virtually anything, and play any song saved.
She allows you to be almost completely hands-free, saving you time and distraction.
Hopefully, you've already become a pro by now and none of this was remotely helpful.

not even close. If you get a text from a new number, how do you save it to your contacts?

not even close. If you get a text from a new number, how do you save it to your contacts? Go to the text in question. At the top right, you should see a blue lower case "i". Click on it. It takes you to a screen with the number at the top left and a phone symbol and arrow (>) key to the right. Click on the arrow key. You should now have the choice of Creating a new Contact.
