Biden may eke out a win against Trump, but this election is still another massive Democratic failure.
If Biden wins (which is still not certain), what will his administration accomplish? Absolutely nothing. There will be no substantive action on health care, infrastructure, immigration, environment, jobs, Trump’s tax giveaway to the wealthy, etc. All the policies discussed in the Biden campaign will wind up in Mitch McConnell’s trash can. McConnell will even dictate who Biden can appoint to his cabinet. In other words, Biden will accomplish only what he can achieve by executive order, because McConnell will not allow his Senate to vote on any significant Biden legislation. Plus, if Republicans gain a majority in the House in the 2022 midterm (as usually happens), then they will impeach Biden just out of spite.
Democrats need to figure out why they have lost the ability to gain the allegiance of American voters like Johnson and FDR did. Is it that Democrats are too fractious among themselves? Is it that they are unwilling play gutter politics like today’s Republicans? Is it related to the current incompetence of pollsters?
The answer isn’t clear, but Democrats in America and progressive leaders around the world had better figure it out soon, or the world will degenerate into a swarm of dictatorships.
