Check the kids out. Screw the CBOE. I completely agree.

Why do moms not want their kids in schools when bad weather is coming? Schools are built much better than 99% of homes. Really? Did ya SEE Alberta Elementary School?

We check out and go to our safe place. And I like to get a head start, not wait until the weather hits. Your absolutely right. You have a plan in place.

***UPDATE*** Due to the change in timing of the impending severe weather threat and it lingering into the early evening hours, all schools and the central office of the Tuscaloosa County School System will close at 12:15 p.m. There will be no extended day or after school activities.
The parent notification system will be activated.

How many homes are destroyed in tornado's compared to schools destroyed in tornado's? Id be willing to bet that its something like 1/1000. It just doesn't make sense to take someone out of a block and steel building that is engineered to strict standards and put them in a house built out of wood and nails.

I started 1st Grade in 1962 and graduated high school in 1974. I don't ever recall school being dismissed because of bad weather.
The only time we ever missed school for weather was if snow was already on the ground several inches deep (rare in Tuscaloosa) when we awoke, and Mama made the command decision that this was a day NOT to go to school.

IF the school were a storm shelter, as they were many years ago, I would say it might be valid. But, it's not the school's responsiblilty to keep kids safe its their family's. I remember days when parents went to schools to seek shelter with their kids if they were shelters or families went to what were called "Fallout" shelters in government buildings. However, since we don't have that, family members need to ensure their kids are safe and have plans in place.

Just windy as h*ll here in East Tuscaloosa County. Definitely need safety glasses just walking outside. Pollen blowing around is enough to make you think the sandman came up and smacked you right in the face with his magical sandman dust.

That was the way it was back in our school day. Now it seems school is out half of the year ,teachers work shop, spring break ,2 week Christmas ,Thanksgiving, bad weather days, teachers day. We would go to the gym when we had a storm at my old school.

That must have been before helicopter moms. Is a helicopter mom a MILF who can make the tassels on a pair of pasties swing synchronistically while planning the dinner menu?
